As we get closer to field preparation and planting time, motorists across the state and here in Wright County will likely start encountering farm machinery on highways as well as on rural roads.

MnDOT's Scott Thompson reminds drivers to be patient. "With the weather finally turning to look something more like spring we now see the opportunities for farmers to get out into their fields and do that planting. And with that planting work comes large, heavy, slow-moving farm equipment on the state's roadways."

He says farmers also share in the responsibility for safely sharing the roads. "It's also important for farm equipment operators to make sure that their equipment utilizes running lights, as well as flashers."

Thompson also encourages farmers to use a follow vehicle when moving equipment, especially at night.
